Barista Skills Certificate (Level 3)

The Barista Skills Certificate (Level 3) offers professional barista training in a real café environment. It is primarily a practical based training programme that will allow you to gain the skills necessary to become a barista.  

After completing this programme you'll have the knowledge and essential practical skills to attain a barista position within the hospitality industry. We teach you the basic techniques of espresso-making and supervise you in an operational café where you will perfect coffee making for paying customers. 

Students will gain technical and practical skills as well as the confidence from working in a real café.

The programme is based in Asquith Café which is an operational training facility and will be 80% practical based learning with 20% theory.

The maximum number for this programme is 6 students per intake. This allows for intensive training in a practical environment, maximum supervision when working as part of the café team and sufficient time to learn and complete theory to a high standard.

Programme Structure/Courses

The Barista Skills Certificate covers one unit standard.

17288 - Prepare and present espresso beverages for service (Level 3, Credits 5, V5)
Successfully completing this unit standard and the practical sessions will give you the skills required to gain employment in the hospitality industry as a barista or café assistant. 


Programme Tutors

Our programme tutors are highly experienced industry professionals passionate about sharing their experience and expertise in training students in hospitality and preparing them for work.

You will work alongside them to run the Asquith Campus café allowing you to train on the job. In addition to your certificate you will gain invaluable experience in a real working café.

Entry Requirements

IELTS 5.0 with no band less than 5.0 / TOEFL iBT 35 (with a writing score of 14) / PToE academic score of 36 /AIS TEP 44/80 or equivalent with no band less than 11; and
16 years and over
